Sadly, it sounds like the Save Mike Funk & Keep Your Email Clean Society, will be making another trek to the Minnetrista Council meeting slated for 5/19/14. Ask yourselves: why is this group so intent on disrupting the city from finding the correct solution to our long-standing water issues while exploring options for what the future will bring? Safe drinking water, should be Minnetrista's number one focus right now and nothing else. The content of their last two tirades; when actually drifting toward the topic of delivering a clean water solution, were fraught with inaccuracies. Consider this statement made by one of the group's directors:
{Now, [name redacted], you know very well that Triclosan and other ORGANIC contaminants are frequently found in community water systems WHEN THE SOURCE FOR THAT DRINKING WATER IS SURFACE WATER, AS IN A RIVER OR A SURFACE RESERVIOR.
You know just as well that Triclosan and other organic contaminants simply do not appear in well water, as is the source for the Minnetrista drinking water supply. While the Minnetrista water has high levels of iron and manganese, there has never been any test results that would indicate that the water contains ANY large molecule organic contaminants.}
I'm no water expert, but there are inaccuracies in that statement any lay person can see through with about 15 minutes of research. Of course, the first question that rises from the statement is: has there ever been any test of Minnetrista's wells for Triclosan , which support his statement? The concern about Triclosan in public water supplies has been advancing rapidly for some time, so I would guess our EX-mayor, EX-council and EX-city admin, has had all our water wells tested for this malady at some point?? If so, why can't I receive a copy from the claimant? If not tested, why not?
Further, the statement: "You know just as well that Triclosan and other organic contaminants {{{simply do not appear in well water}}}, as is the source for the Minnetrista drinking water supply." is just not true. I won't say any more about this, but will post links below so you can come to your own conclusions. In the meantime, ask yourselves; or this group: what is their true agenda? Why are they so bent on derailing the council from arriving at the absolute safest, best and most futuristic solution possible to the City of Minnetrista's water issues, which some of us have endured for years? Here are some links that will be enlightening while demonstrating the fallacy of the person's statement above:
{"I think why Minnesota will be the first [to ban triclosan] is that we have better data than other states, and so we're in a better position to identify the risks that triclosan and its dioxin components pose to our environment," he said.}
